Research
Thomas Rieger is a pioneer in the study of fitness market dynamics. He primarily uses sociological theories and methods (e.g., system theory, organization theory) to understand and describe the behavior of multiple stakeholders within the market. His main research lies on the organizational development of commercial fitness organizations, not only by focusing on the necessity to ensure economic efficiency, but also to further the role of these organizations as meaningful institutions for the public health sector. Currently, he is exploring complaint management practices as a pivotal tool to aim service quality in the German fitness market (with Alexandra Swonke) and impacts of sport event sponsoring at the Olympic Games in London 2012 (with Alexandra Swonke and Michael Pfleger).
